We were proud to represent LIFE23-CET-Re-Energize at the 16th BUILD UP Skills European Exchange Meeting, held in Brussels on April 2–3, 2025. The event brought together LIFE CET projects, including ours, as well as other EU-funded initiatives focused on tackling the shortage of skilled professionals in the heat pump sector.
Our participation was part of a wider European effort to strengthen workforce readiness for the green transition. The meeting aimed to encourage knowledge exchange, share project progress, and explore ways to align and amplify impact across initiatives working in the field of sustainable construction and energy efficiency.
What is BUILD UP Skills?
BUILD UP Skills is an EU initiative launched in 2011 to support the upskilling and reskilling of the construction workforce, with the goal of meeting the energy and climate targets set by the European Green Deal. It is currently managed by CINEA (the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency) and contributes directly to the EU Pact for Skills.
The initiative promotes:
- Skills intelligence and forecasting for the green transition
- Development of new or updated training and qualification schemes
- Strategies to increase uptake of skills and demand for trained professionals
Over the years, BUILD UP Skills has supported national roadmaps, innovative training tools, and mechanisms to make green skills more visible and accessible in the market. Regular EU Exchange Meetings like this one are organized to foster cooperation and mutual learning between countries and projects.
Our Contribution
At the event, we presented key findings from our latest research on skills needs and workforce gaps in the heat pump sector. We shared insights into current barriers to training, professional mobility, and workforce readiness, and highlighted the potential for cross-sector transitions. The presentation also explored strategies for targeted upskilling and stakeholder engagement in seven European countries.
The exchange allowed us to learn from other projects, build partnerships, and contribute to a collective vision for a skilled, adaptable, and future-ready workforce in Europe’s construction sector.
